Secretory general of United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon has urged Maldivian political parties to find solutions through dialogue.
Ban Ki-moon’s spokesperson said that Ban Ki-moon requests Maldivian political parties to find solutions through dialogue. He requested to start dialogue as soon as possible.
“Secretory general requests political parties to uphold democratic values and hold dialogue with the government. He also requests to strengthen independent institutions in the country” said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson further said that they are ready to facilitate dialogue between the government and the parties.
Government has tried to hold dialogue with political parties, however, some opposition parties have rejected the most recent invitations by the government.
The head of the government’s delegation in the dialogue, Fisheries Minister Dr.Muhammad Shainee have said that the government is always ready to start dialogue.
When government asked the parties to approve their representatives in the party dialogue through the party council, some parties have made it a big issue. It is noted that the parties bring up unnecessary problems because the parties are more interested in freeing their leaders serving jail term. Government have said that they are willing to conduct dialogue and find solutions to these problems as well.
