Imaam have said that, the gifts given to government representatives by various people belongs to the state and it cannot be owned by the receiver.
The Imaam explained this very well in yesterday’s Friday sermon by referring to a Hadith of prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
In addition, the Imaam called to stay away from corruption. The Imaam said that giving and receiving bribes is prohibited by Allah. He said that, if such acts become common in a society, Allah will punish the society.
Corruption is so common in the society, most people in Maldives do not believe that it is a crime.
Attorney General Muhammad Anil recently said that the state has recovered a lot of money that were lost in to corruption. He said that the state will send more cases to be prosecuted.
People do not care much about corruption now because, many people who have been implicated in corrupt scandals are still in high government positions.
