Attorney General Muhammad Anil have said that if enough opportunities are provided, people with disabilities can develop themselves and thus asked everyone to provide such people with more opportunities.
Anil made this statement while speaking at a ceremony held at Artificial Beach this afternoon to mark the international day for people with disabilities.
Anil said that kids with disabilities are achieving a lot in Quran and singing competitions and if they get such opportunities in sports, they can achieve a lot.
He said that whats needed is proper training and with training these kids can make the country proud.
He said that, extra works needs to be done to provide job opportunities for such kids. “ There are people with disabilities in the Sri Lankan army even” said Anil.
Anil said that Maldives marks this day to make people more aware about the needs and wants of people with disabilities. He said that until very lately, Maldives was very behind in protecting the rights of people with disabilities and their rights were ensured with the work done by parents of such people.
“Parents have worked hard to ensure rights for people with disabilities” said Anil. He said that as a result of the work done by parents, a legislation protecting people with disabilities has come into existence and now it is being implemented.
“Special work is being done to provide education, health facilities and jobs to people with disabilities. More work needs to be done.” Said Anil
