World Disaster Report 2016 released in Maldives
World Disaster Report 2016 has been released in Maldives today. This is a report about disasters all over the world.

The report was released by Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar during a ceremony held at Champaa Central Hotel earlier today. Maldivian Red Crescent organized the event.

Regional heads of ICRC attended the ceremony. In addition, staffs of MRC and many volunteers attended the ceremony as well. This report has been released by IFRC for the last 23 years. In their annual reports, they include disasters that happened in Maldives as well.

Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of MRC, Noora said that even though Maldives does not face disasters like other countries, we cannot say that Maldives is not affected by disasters in other countries. Noora also talked about how MRC responds during disasters.

Speaking on behalf of IFRC, Mr.Leon said that IFRC movement has the most number of volunteers in the world and MRC has achieved a lot since it was founded 7 years ago.

Speaking at the ceremony Defence and National Security Minister Adam Shareef praised the work done by volunteers all around the world. Minister said that Maldivians has always been very helpful to others and are showing that to the rest of the world. Adam Shareef noted how MRC volunteers and the public helped during a fire in Male’ recently.
