9 people with Aids are being treated in Maldives : WHO
Dr.Arvindhu Maathur the representative of WHO in the Maldives, have said that there are known 9 patients of Aids in Maldives and that they are being treated well.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Republican Square to mark World Aids day, Dr.Mathur said that there are people that needs to be tested and it is very important to test them. He said that there are around 10 to 15 people that needs to be tested.

He said that aids prevalence rate is low in Maldives relative to world average and it is possible to eliminate aids from Maldives completely. He said that, it can be achieved when everyone cooperates with the government to test for aids.

Dr.Mathur said that a country can fully obtain information about the people with aids when only everyone is tested. He said that it is the most beneficial to test and know that if one is positive or not.
He said that high risk groups such as youth who engage in high risk behavior and foreigners who enter the country should be tested. Dr.Maathur noted that no mother will want her child to get Aids and hence its important for everyone to get tested for Aids.
