Among Asia Pacific countries aviation has the biggest share of GDP in Maldives : Moosa Zameer
Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer have said that among Asia Pacific countries, aviation has the biggest share on GDP in Maldives. Zameer said that, aviation industry has huge potential in Maldives in the future.

He made said this on a statement he made on the occasion of international civil aviation day. The statement says that aviation shares 10.3 percent of Maldivian GDP and opportunities to study and work in that field are increasing. He said that this industry has a lot of investment opportunities. He noted that various companies that are engaged in this industry in Maldives are expanding their operations.

He further said that the government’s policy is to develop the civil aviation industry in Maldives and expand room for investors. He said that the government aims to increase the profits made from this industry which is also related to the tourism industry the main economic pillar of Maldives.

In addition, he said that the industry is developing at a fast pace and now Maldives has 4 international airports, 7 domestic airports and 83 registered aircrafts. Furthermore, he said that the number of people travelling by airplane is increasing and in 2015 2.53 million people travelled domestically using airplanes. He further said that international travels in the same period are around at 3.06 million. He concluded the statement by saying that even now Civil Aviation Authority of Maldives is receiving proposals to invest in the sector.
