Many people are raising concern because there was no mention of rapists and child molesters in the ceremony held this morning to mark Human Rights Day.
Lately Maldivian women are sexually assaulted by foreign laborers, specially the Bangladesh Citizens, in Maldives. Also from time to time cases of child molesting comes up.
However, in today’s ceremony the President of Human Rights Commission Aminath Eenaz raised the issue of foreigners not receiving salary on time.
It should be noted that even from Hulhumale’ alone various cases of sexual assault by foreigners has come up.
In addition, last year a Maldivian girl was murdered after engaging in a sexual act with the girl. The main suspect is a Bangladeshi man. Hence, HRCM failing to talk about such an important issue is seen as encouraging such people to continue these acts.
