As part of fisherman’s day celebrations, has organized a reef fishing competition with a grand prize of an engine worth MVR 67000 to be gifted by MTCC.
MTCC said that the grand prize will be a 4 stroke Suzuki brand engine with 15 horsepower. " This is a very expensive gift to fishermen. We do not care about the price. We want to gift something to the fishermen and encourage them to fish" said an official.
The competition was held at Ga.Gemanafushi yesterday as part of official fishermen's day activities. Suzuki engines are the most famous among Maldivian fishermen. Prizes will be awarded tomorrow night, at the office ceremony on the occasion of Fishermen's day.
Even though a lot of people are engaged in reef fishing most of the people do it as a leisure activity. If properly done it will can be a good source of revenue.
Fisheries Ministry is doing a lot of work to promote reef fishing.
