Ooredoo’s Nationwide Submarine Cable has successfully been connected to its second landing station in G.dh Thinadhoo today.
The companybegan the deployment of its Nationwide Undersea Cable across the Maldives on 8th December 2016, with the cable being connected to its first landing station in Addu onthe same day.
Ooredoo initiated the $25,000,000 Nationwide Submarine Cable Project after receiving its ISP license in the Maldives last year. The submarine cable will stretch across 1,200 km from north to south of Maldives with six landing stations in S.Hithadhoo, G.dh. Thinadhoo, K. Hulhumale’ M. Kolhufushi, B. Eydhafushi, and H.dh Kulhudhuffushi.
The nationwide cable project is expected go live in January 2017, and will allow Ooredoo to greatly enhance quality of services and provide high speed internet services to all islands and resorts across the Maldives.
The project aims to support the needs of local communities and businesses in fully utilising the benefits of the digital ages such as access to telemedicine, teleworking, online learning, and e-government services.
