MPL has created a channel in Meedhoo, so that the travelers and fishermen can access the open sea more easily. Many people are now using this channel.
Because of this channel, 40 minutes will be reduced from the journey for fishermen and a considerable amount of fuel will be salved as well. The same benefits will be received by those who travel to Fuvahmulah by boat.
The cannery and fishermen’s marina that is to be established in Addu City by MIFCO will be located in Hulhumeedhoo. These projects are going on even now. When, these factories are opened, more and more vessels will use this channel. So apart from vessels registered in Hulhumeedhoo, all other fishing vessels and boats will benefit from the channel.
Creating this channel has been an election promise of Maumoon for a long time. However, he failed to fulfil this promise. Even former President Nasheed made this promise and as expected he also failed to deliver it. Many people are expressing gratitude after the current government created the channel.
