Some youths in Hulhumale’ have said that even after the trees near Hulhumale’ central park were cleared, a Bangladeshi has attempted to rape a women and the solution is to castrate Bangladeshis.
The youths said that, in the past few days Bangladeshis almost raped 5 women. “ Recently the media reported about a woman who escaped after biting the Bangladeshi, that was the 4th case. The case before that was more dangerous and the woman suffered injuries” said the youths.
Miadhu News met with the husband of the 3rd victim.
He said that on that night, his wife and child came together from the ferry and he went off to drop the child to the home and when he came back to get the wife, his wife was nowhere to be seen. “While she was walking back, someone apprehended her. Since she knows self-defense, she even attacked him but the man over powered her and dragged her into the bushes” said the husband. He said that his wife was bruised badly and even shared the pictures with Miadhu News.
“He even threatened her with a cutter asking her not to scream. They go out to “hunt” with cutters” said the man. He said that he was really worried when he could not find his wife and then he heard a woman’s voice within the bushes. He then accelerated his motorcycle towards the bushes and the guy ran away.
“He was a huge man. Since my wife was bleeding I had to attend her instead of running after the man. She is still recovering from the wounds” said the husband. He said that he did not report the case to police because he knows that there is nothing they can do. But, after hearing about the case police met them and asked about it.
People from Hulhumale’ noted that the number of police working at Hulhumale’ is relatively less and hence police are not able to manage the city that well. Moreover, they said that they saw a Bollywood movie which shows a group of Indian women who were victims of assault attacking such men and cutting of their sexual organs. He said that since it might not be so easy for women in Maldives to conduct such an operation, the men should do something like that.
“We do not have any other option do we ? As long as something like this does not happen to the wife of someone senior in the government there will not be a solution. Also its not possible not to use this area. When ferries come late at night, it is not so easy to find a bus at that time. Everyone does not have that much money to use taxis each and every night so they have to walk” said the man.
“ Bangladeshis are also running prostitution rings in Hulhumale’. They are selling drugs and alcohol as well. They use the money they earn from these illegal businesses to eat and become healthy to rape Maldivian women” said one man.
The youths who spoke from Hulhumale’ said that the government keeps on saying that it is the youths responsibility to keep the country harmonious and they are thinking of doing something about this.
