MNDF and Indian Army has started military exercises in L.Kahdhoo. The exercises will be held from 15th December to 29th December at MNDF Central Head Quarters in Kahdhoo.
The training was officially inaugurated this morning at a ceremony held at Khadhoo MNDF HQ. The chief guest of the ceremony was the Marine Commander of MNDF Brigadier General Ali Zuhair. Speaking at the ceremony, the chief guest noted about the importance of such joint exercises. He said that the army of both nations have developed close relations because of such exercises.
The purpose of this exercise is to develop the relations between the two armies and to prepare for counter insurgency operations together.
The main focus of the operations will be water borne operations and other related exercises. The exercises will be conducted in uninhabited islands of Laamu atoll as well. Soldiers of Fort Bihaar Regiment of the Indian Army are taking part in the training. As for Maldives, MNDF marines are taking part in the training. The trainers of these exercises will be specialists from MNDF and the Indian Army.
Since 2009, these exercises have been conducted between the two countries. The previous exercises were held in Trivandrum of India. The opening ceremony of the training was attended by senior MNDF officials from central command and the defense secretory of India to the Maldives.
