Home Minister Azleen Ahmed have said that the quality of Maldivian telecommunication services has increased with the fiber optic cable of Ooredoo.

He made this statement during a ceremony held earlier today to connect the fiber optic cable to Hulhumale’. He said that due to this cable, now Maldives does not have the fear of telecommunication services completely being disrupted because previously there was only one cable that crossed the Huvadhoo ocean. Azleen said that in this region, telecommunication services are most developed in Maldives and even in on a global level Maldives ranks high.

Azleen said that today, internet and communications services are basic rights and he praised the work Ooredoo is doing to perfect these services in Maldives. Azleen noted that, Ooredoo which started as Wataniya 10 years ago perfected their services within a short period of time.

He further said that since communication services are important to develop education and businesses, the government gives extra attention to develop these services in Maldives. He thanked Ooredoo for their input in developing this sector in Maldives.

Azleen also noted that even though Ooredoo is a business they are greatly involved in social responsibility programs in Maldives. He particularly noted the decision of Ooredoo’s chairman to develop a world class stadium in Hulhumale’.
