Not a single Maldivian managing stalls at Hulhumale’ local market !

Miadhu has learned that there is not a single Maldivian managing the stalls at local market in Hulhumale. Earlier friday, journalists from Miadhu visited the market and could not find a single Maldivian. Even the stall selling fish was managed by foreigners.

Economic Ministry says that only Maldivian can be cashiers. Economic Ministry has formed a special committee to prevent foreigners from working at local market.

Some people in the area said that Hulhumale’ is part of Male’ city and if foreigners are able to work at Hulhumale’local market like this, there is no reason they cannot do the same in Male’. Also, if foreigners can work as cashiers in the stalls in Hulhumale’ market, they can do the same in Male’ as well.
