Government does not issue work visas but most of the employees on Safaris are foreigners
Maldivian Immigration has not issued work visas to any foreigner to work on safaris but most of the employees in the safaris are foreigners.

A captain of a safari who spoke to Miadhu News said that there are 6 employees on the safari he works at and 4 Maldivians who work on aboard the safari were replaced with 4 Bangladeshis. Hence now there are only 2 Maldivians on that safari.

In an operation police carried out last week, they arrested 3 Bangladeshis on a safari. This proves that there are Bangladeshis working on Safaris.

An immigration official who spoke to Miadhu News said that they do not issue work visas to anyone to work on a safari. “However we do give work visa to some foreigners who work as captains on large luxury yachts. This is a very limited category” said the official.

President Yameen’s manifesto states that the government will provide 94,000 jobs to Maldivians. So to implement this manifesto, such jobs lost to foreigners should be given to Maldivians.

A lot of people believe that now it is time to inspect safaris for foreigners like, the government inspects local markets.
