Environment Ministry has started a workshop to discuss on ways to attain sustainability development goals in Maldives.
The workshop is being held at Champa Central Hotel. In addition to Environment Ministry, the UN agencies in Maldives and other government authorities are taking part in the workshop. This is the first meeting of the technical committee formed to achieve these goals.
UN has come up with a list of 17 goals and 167 aims to achieve by 2030. These goals include eradicating poverty, establish justice, and mitigating environmental disasters.
Speaking at the ceremony, the senior policy executive of environment ministry Dr.Abdullah Naseer said that Maldives attained 5 out 8 millennium development goals set by UN. Dr.Naseer said that Maldives was able to achieve this because of the work done by the government and the people.
“Our next work is much harder and wider in scope. So we have to do a lot of work.” Said Naseer. He said that island nations like Maldives should do a lot to achieve the sustainability development goals.
