Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim have said that ensuring round the clock electricity in all islands of Maldives is expensive but the government will do it.
The minister made this statement speaking at a ceremony held today at STELCO to release Maldives Energy Policy and Strategy 2016 and Electricity Data Book 2016. After releasing the book the Minister said that when policies are written like this, those who want to invest in the energy sector can obtain information about Maldivian energy policies easily.
He further said that the government project to provide at least 30 percent of the energy used during day term from renewable sources by 2018 is going on successfully and by 2018 all the islands will have renewable sources of energy. He also said that the books will show the achievements of the government in the energy sector and also government policies on energy.
Thariq said that installing a synchronized panel in each island is quite expensive but the government will do it. “ Then, the amount of fuel burnt in producing electricity will be less. We can ensure round the clock electricity” said Thariq.
Thoriq noted that the government gives a lot of importance to provide electricity at low prices. He also said that President Yameen gives high priority in formulating energy policies that will be beneficial for the country in the long run.
