Indian Army has donated oil spill dispersants to MNDF today.
It was handed over to MNDF during a ceremony held today aboard Indian Navy Shop INS Samar. Indian Ambassador to Maldives Aklhilesh Mishra handed it over on behalf of the Indian government. Chief of Defense Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam accepted it on behalf of MNDF.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief of Defence Force thanked the Indian Army for their assistance to MNDF in several areas. Speaking at the ceremony Indian Ambassador said that, he is working to strengthen the relation between the two armies and that India will provide assistance to develop MNDF.
The oil spill dispersants were given after talks held between the Director of Indian Coast Guard and Chief of Maldivian National Defence Force during “Exercise Dosti”. Oil spill dispersants are used to prevent pollution after oil spills.
The ceremony held aboard INS Samar was attended by senior MNDF officials. INS Samar is in Maldives to take part in a surveillance operation that will be conducted in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Maldives. MNDF coast guard and Indian Navy will take part in this operation that will be conducted till 24th of December. In this operation, they will check if there are any illegal activates going on in the EEZ of Maldives.
