Defence Ministry has decided to give three months for the warehouses and other places which provides public service to install fire safety equipment.
Speaking to the press Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar said that MNDF will finish inspecting Male’ area for fire related vulnerabilities by this month. He said that once they are done with it, they will announce regulations regarding the installation of fire safety equipment.
He said that they will give a three-month period for all the places to install the equipment and again another inspection will be done.
“ We hope that the people cooperate with us and install the equipment as required. If not we will take action” said Adam Shareef. In addition he said that in future, businesses will get their business permit after obtaining a letter from the defence ministry as proof of having adequate fire safety mechanisms.
He said that future inspection programs will be carried out within the atolls as well. In addition he said that once the industrial village is completed, warehouses with flammable materials should be relocated to the village.
