It is feared that baby-selling rackets might sprung up in Maldives. There are many possible symptoms of something like that happening. This started because westerners buy babies at expensive prices and this became a huge business in India.
Even in this month, two groups that were involved in baby-selling rackets were arrested. The last organization were bringing up infants and selling them when they are a bit older. This organization had branches in 6 states of India. Some of them were arrested with babies in Bangalore and Chennai.
In Maldives there are many woman who deal with unwanted pregnancies. These people often give away their babies to other Maldivian families. Also, some people give birth and leave the baby at the hospital. Some people say that a woman who is known for begging has repeatedly done this.
Such worldwide malpractices are spreading in Maldives as well. It is very much possible that such woman who get unwanted pregnancies might go to India to sell their babies. Also, it is possible that people might smuggle babies to India from Maldives. It might be difficult to smuggle babies without parents from Maldives. However it can still be done if there are people who can assist to carry this out from India.
Hence, pregnant woman who leave to India alone should be carefully monitored. Criminals will always commit crimes no matter how much they are monitored. However, monitoring will reduce crimes. Someone who spoke to Miadhu News recently said that a pregnant woman she knows came back from India without a baby and claimed that the baby has died. The person who spoke to Miadhu believes that she might have sold off her baby in India.
