President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, after today’s Cabinet meeting issued a directive to ensure that Birth Certifications and National Identity Documentation were issued in a manner that children born out of wedlock are not disadvantaged in any way.
The President's decision seeks to overcome and properly address the huge detrimental effects existing practices have had on future opportunities, and education, of individuals.
Cabinet consultations held that other Islamic countries have also adopted similar, forward looking, measures when presenting basic personal information.
The President's directive follows on the consensus of the Cabinet.
