Maldives Immigration and other relevant authorities have started an operation to find expats working illegal in Male’.
According to Immigration, some foreigners have been taken into custody even now under this operation. “ We bring them in if they do not have the relevant documents. Then we check if they have the permits kept somewhere else. If they do not have these, then will be deported “ said the official.
Immigration officials said that they will take action against employers who hire people without valid work permits. “ At first it will be a small penalty but it will be progressive and we will annul the permission to hire foreigners if it comes to that “ said the official. Immigration said that in cases like this it is important for everyone to do their social responsibility and not to hire people with valid work visas.
In some middle eastern countries, it is a crime to hire people illegaly. Also, those who violate this law are getting punished and faces possible jail term. Such laws reduce the amount of the number of illegal workers hired.
