Joint training program of MNDF and the Indian Army, “Exercise Ekuverin 2016 has ended.
A ceremony was held at MNDF Central Area HQ in L.Kahdhoo to mark the ending of the training exercise. The chief guest of the ceremony was Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor. MNDF soldiers who took part in the training were given certificates by Brigadier Micheal AJ Fernandez of the 91st Infantry Brigade of the Indian Army. Indian Army soldiers were given the certificates by Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor.
Both Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor and Brigadier Micheal Fernandez spoke at the ceremony. The exercise which was conducted from 15th to 27th of this month was conducted to harness the military relations between Maldives and India. In addition, another purpose was to get more experience in carrying out counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations.
The main components of the operations were water borne operations. The exercises were conducted in 4 inhabited islands of Laamu Atoll and some uninhabited islands. In addition, trainings were conducted on the sea as well.
Fort Bihaar Regiment soldiers of the Indian Army took part in this exercise while MNDF marines took part in the training. The exercises were facilitated by experts from the Indian Army and MNDF.
This series of exercises have been conducted since 2009. The previous one was conducted in Thiruvananthapuram of India. The closing ceremony was attended by senior officials from MNDF and senior officers of the Fort Bihaar regiment of the Indian Army.
