India always gives a high regard to the safety and security of Maldives. India is always ready to assist Maldives in everything and in addition they assist the most in safety and security matters.
India provides the most opportunities for Maldivian soldiers in capacity building. India gives the most number of studying opportunities for MNDF as well. In the past they have gifted a military vessel to Maldives and assists MNDF to patrol the EEZ of Maldives. In addition they have gifted two helicopters and all the costs in using the helicopters are covered by the Indian government.
These helicopters are often used in rescue operations and in air lifting patients from one island to the other. Recently, two tourists who were lost at sea were also found using these helicopters. India is the closed nation to the Maldives. They are our brother nation. Even President Yameen noted this.
Speaking about India-Maldives relations the Indian Highcomissioner to Maldives Akhilesh Mishra said that Maldives and India are partners in many ways. “ We use two different passports. But we have one pulse. If something happen to Maldives or to a Maldivian, our pulse rate increases. These relations are not something we created now. These relation began thousands of years ago” said the Highcomissioner.
