Drug Court have said that the number of cases referred to the court increased by 66 percent in 2016.
The court said that in 2015, 914 cases were filed at the court and in 2016 a total of 1525 cases were filed at the court. Hence this shows an increase of 66 percent.
According to National Drug Agency NDA, number of drug users on the streets has decreased significantly. However, a lot of people beleive that the number of drug users have not decreased.
Last year some huge shipments of drugs were confiscated by the customs and police. In these cases Maldivians and foreigners were arrested. Most of the foreign drug traffickers are from Bangladesh .
