Gateway School decides not to use secular social studies text books !

Gateway International School has decided not to use the secular social studies books and changed it to the regular social studies book used in all other schools of Maldives.

Parents who spoke to Miadhu News said that, they were informed of the decision last night and that they are now very happy. However, they said that they do not believe that the decision to use these books were not a mistake.

“ If they did it by a mistake, why did they try so hard to defend the decision ? Why did not they take immediate action instead of defending it ? If they took some action, this would not even go to the media. “ said a parent.

Social studies of any country will always be based on the nation’s ideology. It will tend to promote the nation’s culture, religion and history.

Actions are taken often when something happens. Since its expected that Education Ministry will take some action regarding this to prevent similar cases in future.

In addition, they have done something which is illegal. They imported a book which contains materials which are not suitable for the society and then distributed it. Government should act so that such things will not be repeated in the future. This was done on purpose and the fact that they defended the decision all this time is proof that it was no mistake.

They decided to change the books only when parents decided to protest. Also, this problem was not limited to only one page or one book, but in all social studies text books from grade 1 to 5.

We celebrated the day Maldives embraced Islam last week. Religious scholars and the government say that everything Maldives has achieved is because Maldives is a 100 percent Islamic country. So, it is a responsibility of the government and everyone in general to prevent anyone from spreading other ideologies in the country.
