Sailing and rowing competition begins
Sailing and rowing competition organized by MNDF has begun this morning.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the competition Chief of Defense Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam said that they conducted the competition because these sports are very much related to the culture of Maldives. He said that this was an initiative of Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar and that the minister closely monitored the preparations of the competition.
The one day competition is held among different units of MNDF. A total of 18 teams are taking part in the sailing event and each team has to sail for 400 meters.
Chief of Defense Force said that the next competition will be open to the general public as well even though this time it is only for MNDF.
Even female soldiers are taking part in the competition.
Since these events very much reflect the culture of Maldives it is possible that the tourists will be interested in these events. So it is important to conduct future competitions at a national level.
