State Minister for Education, Dr.Abdullah Nazeer have said that the Male’ Friday Mosque is now included in the temporary list of world heritage sites and now they are trying to include 7 more mosques.
Speaking to Miadhu News, Dr.Nazeer said that the 4 experts of UNESCO who are now in Maldives will visit the mosques and asses them.
These 7 mosques are made from coral stones. These mosques are very significant because, at the time they constructed the mosques, there was no construction technology. The 7 mosques include Eid Mosque in Male’, L.Isdhoo Mosque, R.Meedho Mosque, and Adh.Fenfushi Mosque.
If these mosques are included in UNESCO heritage list, there will be many advantages. For instance UNESCO will assist in maintaining these places. Also, cultural tourism will prosper because of this.
