Anti-Corruption Commission have said that the distribution of dates donated by Saudi Arabia by Sadagath Foundation is not an act of corruption.
After investigating the matter ACC released a statement saying that the secretariat of Muliyaage requested Ministry of Finance to provide them with the dates and they gave 500 boxes of dates to Muliyaage. Then, the secretariat of Muliyaage announced for interested parties who would like to assist in distributing the dates.
Dates were then provided to NGOs who expressed interest in distributing it. This was done so that it could be easily distributed. ACC says that they could not find any reason that this could unfairly benefit anyone and hence decided that this was not an act of corruption.
However, ACC said that they have requested relevant authorities in the government to create policies to use NGOs in distribution of such goods in future, because ACC receives complaints of unfair distribution of goods donated to the state by foreign donors.
