MD of MACL Adhil Moosa have said that the number of flights landing at Velana International Airport is increasing with the development in the tourism sector. He said that the record number of flights landed in last December and that it is a historical record.
Speaking to the press he said that they are discussing with three more airlines to start scheduled flights to Velana International Airport and hopes that they will begin this year.
He said that since the number of people using the airport is increasing, they will introduce more and more facilities for the passengers.
“We have developed the domestic terminal and the international terminal” said Adhil. He said that they are working on to open the most famous fast food franchises in the world at the airport. “ Even now we are talking with some people. They have interest. Next week we will announce for bids” said Adhil.
He said that the brands they are trying to bring to the airport includes KFC, Macdonalds, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Dominos, Crispy Cream Dunking Doughnuts, and Hard Rock Café. He said that they wants to give opportunity for 4 or 6 franchises.
He said that those who are interested can open it once the new international terminal is fully developed. Adhil said that they have contracted a Singaporean company with constructing the steel frame for the 14000 square feet building that will be used to house these different franchises. He said that the work of that building will be finished by next month.
