Deputy Mayor of Male’ city council, Shifa Muhammad has been appointed as the deputy leader of Maldives United Opposition.
Shifa was appointed to the position after Ali Waheed the former deputy leader of MUO resigned. Shifa was the Education Minister in MDP’s government. Gross misconduct was seen during her tenure as Education Minister.
Many people don’t like her since she tried a lot to stop Islamic Medium schooling in Maldives. When Arabiyya Scoll was damaged she has tried her best not to re start school again. She tried her best to distribute all the students of Arabiyya School to other schools and never to start the again.
Parents and many others protested on the streets for months to re-start the school, and government was forced to build a new building for the school.
MUO is an opposition movement that was found in the UK by former President Nasheed and former Vice President Dr.Jameel. Apart from some press statements they are largely ineffective. The government of Maldives does not recognize this organization.
