Health Ministry has signed with an agreement with Maldivian National University to train 3000 nurses. Their goal is to have 100 percent Maldivian nurses in all medical institutions in Maldives.
In a ceremony held at Health Ministry earlier today, the health minister said that the government wants to train more nurses as soon as possible and to make sure that all nurses serving in the Maldives are Maldivians.
He said that at present more than half of the nurses in Maldives are foreigners.
Under the agreement signed today, nurses will be trained up to diploma and degree level. Nurses will be trained in R.Ungoofaaru and Fuvahmulah under this program.
The university will make the call for applications for the course in March. Chancellor of MNU, Muhammad Latheef said that the faculty is already full and they will give priority to those who are on the waiting list.
