State Department of US has released a statement regarding John Seyfert who is ‘stranded’ in Maldives because he has not been paid money owed to him by a Maldivian. He is currently in the custody of Maldivian Immigration for staying in Maldives without a passport.

Miadhu News received a copy of the email sent by US Embassy in Colombo. The email included a copy of the statement released by the State Department. It says that the US Department has no high priority than the protection of US citizens overseas. However, it says that due to privacy considerations they are unable to provide any further information regarding the case.
The email was sent by Aminath Shizleen, the public affairs specialist of US Embassy, Colombo.

Speaking to Miadhu News, the lawyer of John Seyfert said that this is the second time his passport has been stolen. It was stolen before and the Embassy replaced it and again it has been stolen. John Seyfert revealed on his Facebook account that the people who owes him money threatened him and warned him to leave the country. He refuses to leave without getting back what he deserves.
