Sheikh Jaufar have said that it is upon every Muslim to work to spread Islam and it is not only the responsibility of the government and the religious scholars.
Sheikh Jaufar said that spreading Islam and giving Fatwas are two different things. “ Only religious scholars can give fatwas. But everyone can spread information about Islam based on what they know” said the Sheikh.
He said that if everyone spreads religious information based on what they know instead of leaving that responsibility to scholars, then the religion will be glorious. He said that everyone should work to make sure that the house they live in is an Islamic house, meaning that everyone in the house lives according to the principles of Islam.
If we look at Maldives, the faith is weak among people because previously government banned people from talking about Islam. Just few years ago, a principal asked students to recite Shahaadath before sleeping and later the principal was suspended for “giving religious advice” without permission. Events like made people fearful of talking about Islam in general.
