Religious scholars have decided that following the religion as commanded by Allah is not extremism.
This is included in the decisions made by the scholars in the 4th convention of the religious scholars of Maldives.
A lot of people noted that people gets labelled as extremists because for a long time some factions within the government made fun of those who followed the religion. People can still remember the days where people with long beards were shaved by the police using chili sauce. People hesitate to accept religious guidance by people who allowed ththose activities.
In addition, the scholars also decided that more work needs to be done to prohibit vices and promote good things. Also the scholars recommended to stop irreligious content broadcasted on the media and also to spread religious awareness among people who work in the media.
Following the religion perfectly is not extremism !
