Government has constructed safety walls with revetment to prevent erosion in Nalaafushi. Previously it was feared that the island might split into two due to erosion.
The safety mechanisms were officially inaugurated today by President Yameen. Speaking at the ceremony the President said that previously the greatest fear among the islanders was that the island might split into two. However, he said that the government has now prevented that from happening.
The government spent more than 17 million Rufiyaa to install a 520-meter-long safety wall in the island.
Speaking at the ceremony, Environment Minister Thorig Ibrahim said that the President was really concerned about the erosion of Naalaafushi even before he assumed office. Thoriq said that the president is solving many such problems all over the country since assuming office.
