Dr.Arvindh Mathur the country representative of WHO in Maldives, have said that actions should be taken against fizzy drinks and energy drinks and the government should take action quickly.
He made this statement at the opening ceremony of a workshop held at Paradise Island Resort today on how the health sector can work on to achieve the sustainability development goals.
Dr.Arvindh said that the finance ministry and the parliament should take actions such as increasing taxes on these products. He said that while everyone speaks about tobacco control, it is also important to take similar action towards other products that are as harmful to health as tobacco products.
In addition, he said that only the health ministry cannot develop the health sector and an STG committee should be formed with representatives from all other sectors. He said that, then the health sector would receive assistance from all other areas as well.
