President Yameen has brought smiles to people with disabilities and their families by employing 157 persons with disabilities in 18 different government corporations.
In a ceremony held this morning 140 of them were given a letter notifying that they have been hired. The President and the First Lady took a picture with them in the ceremony.
Upon assuming office, it was one of the President’s key priorities to provide assistance to people with disabilities. So far, the President has facilitated people with disabilities with more than 300 jobs. All jobs that are given under this program are jobs that can be performed by the people that are hired for the job. Also, the offices which hire them has special facilities to cater for them.
In addition to the President, the first lady also keeps a close eye on the affairs of people with disabilities. Her charity foundation often assists people with disabilities. Like other countries, we always had people with disabilities.
However, it is only now that such people are being taken care of. Previously they were seen as a burden and a liability to the society but with the effort of the President, now people with disabilities are also part of the national workforce, thereby contributing to the development of the nation. Hence this government is indeed an example for other countries as well.
