Islamic Ministry’s decision to switch burials from Male’ to Hulhumale’ will be in effect starting from tomorrow.

Islamic Minister Dr.Ziyad Bagir said that, this decision had to be taken because there is no burial space available in Male’ anymore.

Dr.Ziyad said that once the hospitals contact the ministry about deceased persons, they will arrange the corpse to be transported to Hulhumale’. Dr.Ziyad said that the special ferry will leave to Hulhumale’ from the airport jetty area. Also, that it will use the special jetty near Hulhumale’ MPL area in Hulhumale’.

Dr.Ziyad said that there will be no difficulty in transporting the corpses to Hulhumale’. He also said that transporting corpses like this is not prohibited in Islam and it is even done now. “Those corpses that are taken to Velana International Airport are transported to Male’ via the sea even now. Those people who die in Hulhumale’ and Villimale’ are also transported to Male’ via a ferry. Hence there should not be any problems regarding this” said the minister.
