Local council elections that was previously scheduled for 8th April has been postponed to 15th April due to a request made by the Education Ministry.
Elections Commission said that the Education Ministry informed the commission saying that they have many programs planned for 8th April and hence it would be a challenge to provide halls and other facilities of the schools to conduct the elections.
Elections Commission said that 90 percent of the voting booths are located at schools and also a lot of teachers are taking part in training officials for the voting day.
Elections Commission said that the national advisory committee on elections fully support the decision to change the date of the elections to 15th April. Elections Commission said that this election will be the most free, fair and transparent elections.
