MIFCO is progressing at a fast pace : Shaheer
Chairman of MIFCO, Ahmed Shaheer have said that within a short period, he has been able to bring a lot of positive changes to the company which was on the brink of bankruptcy when he took the helms.

Miadhu News, questioned him about MIFCO since speaking at the 52nd anniversary of STO Shaheer assured that STO has the capability to develop MIFCO. Shaheer said that since MIFCO was made a subsidiary of STO just recently, they have been working hard to earn the trust of the fishermen and the buyers and a a lot of work has been done to improve the infrastructure of the company.

“We do not have any debts to the fishermen now. We have paid it all. Also, we have decreased the price of fuel for fishermen even. Fishermen are now happy. This is not something the fishermen of Maldives has experienced in recent history” said Shaheer.

Shaheer said that, previously the foreign buyers of MIFCO products were unsure about the future, but now MIFCO is now earning the trust of the buyers.

“Canneries were in a bad condition. Now we are working on to renovate the canneries. If we can, can 25 tons right now, the capacity should be increased to 50 tons to increase the profit. Our aim is not to export raw fish and export as value added products. Then only we can give a good price to the fishermen. Also the profit of MIFCO will increase and job opportunities as well. These are things that the President wants to achieve” said Shaheer.

Shaheer said that the President would like to pay top price to the fishermen of Maldives. He said that the President wants to export value added products instead of raw fish. “On last year’s fishermen’s day the President highlighted this” said Shaheer.

“We are bringing many changes on how MIFCO is administered. Also, we are changing the roles of various employees. The good results of these changes can be seen within the next 6 months” said Shaheer.
