More than 190 students who completed the Dhasvaaru program were given certificates. In addition, more than 800 students within the atolls completed the program and it was celebrated last month.
Some of the courses offered in the program are very useful for the country. Such as, mechanical engineering, technical engineering, tailoring and fashion design, IT technician, front office, pastry and bakery chef, photography, refrigeration and air conditioning engineering, retail services, room attendant and water sports.
Those who completed these courses include a lot of girls as well. Some of the courses that were taken by girls are areas in which men usually dominate. However, this shows that even the girls are ready to take part in the workforce on equal footings with boys.
Dhasvaaru program is the foundation that helps students to pursue with their chosen careers. It will enable the students to earn money and progress in their career and life.
Such programs were never introduced in Maldives before. Students were allowed to promote from one grade to the next and graduate even if they do not know anything. This proved to be devastating because most of the students who graduated had no life skills even with 10 years of schooling.
