Wasn’t enslaving the Maldives to GMR a crime?
We can measure crimes on many scales. The criminal can consider some of the criminal’s actions not as crimes. But there are ways to determine if an act is a crime or not. Allah has given humans capability to make this determination.

According to the constitution of Maldives, the government can only tax Maldivians with the approval of the parliament. That is not something the president has the power to do so.

Maldivians should not have to face the burden of an illegal agreement signed by the president. Nonetheless, Maldivians were forced to pay 25 dollars as tax. When the parliament refused to approve it, Nasheed paid this money to GMR from MACL’s budget.

This is a huge crime committed by Nasheed against the people of Maldives.

The people should analyze the second crime. The agreement with GMR states that, they can build the terminal on an area that is approved by the government. However, they never got permission from the government and yet started developing the second terminal. It was Nasheed’s own ministers who gave interviews to the press saying that they started the work of the terminal without the required permissions. It was them, who revealed that GMR has a huge influence on Nasheed and that the sovereignty of Maldives was at stake.

Hence, people of Maldives should think carefully are determine what a crime is. A president of a country will not become a slave to a foreign company like this if they had no influence on him.

Champions of democracy are those who can uphold rule of law. There are such champions in MDP as well. They just need a chance to run the party independently. MDP members are also asking for such a chance. Saying that no one from MDP will contest in elections if Nasheed cannot contest in the presidential elections will close the chance for such people. Or is it an act of democracy as well ?
