Compared to 2015, the amount of foreign investments in 2016 increased by 300 million dollars.
Registrar of companies, Mariyam Visaam said that in the past year 1.6-billion-dollar worth of foreign investments came in to Maldives and that it is a huge achievement.
Visam said that the proposals received to the ministry will be invested and implemented within the next 5 years. She said that around 80 percent of the investments are for the tourism industry and the rest was for businesses, consultancy, and other fields.
In addition to these, many new investments can be seen in the Maldives in a near future. President Yameen said that he hopes that agreements regarding the investments be signed very soon.
