More votes were casted from Addu City in MDP internal elections to elect the chairperson, than votes casted from Male’.
According to Addulive, most number of votes were casted from Addu City. Total 4062 people voted in the elections and out of that 4052 votes for Hassan Latheef. While 10 members voted against him. After Addu City, most number of votes were casted from Male’. Total of 3300 votes were casted from Male’ while 3308 people voted for Hassan Latheef and 20 people voted against him.
MDP claims that the government prevented people from voting. However they failed explain how exactly the government did this and also did not lodge complaints with any authorities regarding the matter.
Now the question arises whether MDP has more supporters in Male’ or in Addu City. What we know for sure is that support for MDP is diminishing all over the Maldives. Even if there are some members in MDP they are probably forced to stay in the party due to some reasons.
Meanwhile, PPM managed to get 11,000 members within a day and this shows that MDP lost the momentum they had once. No matter how much they say that the members will stay loyal to them, that is not the reality today.
We will see the big picture from the results of the local council elections and the 2018 presidential elections. Both parties will try to get most number of people to vote for them. No one will prevent anyone from voting. The results will show the reality.
