Maldivians remember the days when people were allowed to “breathe” only when they sign DRP !

Some people are saying that “decision to join a party should be an individual decision”. That is true. That is how it should be. But sadly, some people forgot how things were just a few years back. Some people forgot what they did when they were running things.

Maldivians are not so forgetful. We still remember how things were during the early days of party system in Maldives. Kids who were born during that time are still able to travel with children’s fare.

Even then political parties should be free. The regulations did not change. But, we can still remember the rain of “crude oil” if a party meeting is held. People who were victims of mob attacks are still alive. People who suffered various injuries are still alive to tell their stories.

Back then, if one wanted to “breathe in Maldives” they had to sign DRP. There are thousands of civil servants even today who remembers that they had to attend DRP meetings if they wanted to remain in job the next morning.
These things cannot be wiped away from the history of Maldives. Everyone can talk in a different way each week, or even each hour. But what happened in the past cannot be changed. Those things have happened.

Trying to hide the damages incurred by political leaders in the past is a huge crime against the country. Trying to rewrite history in ways favorable to one specific person is not something that should be taken lightly. Anyone who loves the nation will not do it.

The first President of the Maldives, Muhammad Ameen was a great leader. He did many great services to the nation. When things went wrong, he took responsibility and said that there is no reason to investigate and authorities should reach a verdict.

This is a good example of loving the nation. There are people who witnessed these moments from history even today !
