CEO of MPL, Muhammad Junaid have said that previously, if a cargo ships is coming to
Maldives, the sailors of the ship take it as the biggest holiday. He said that however, sailors do not get this ‘holiday’ anymore.
Junaid said that previously sailors got this big holiday because it took 16 to 20 days to unload the ship and during that time sailors do not have any work to do. “Even I worked in a ship. If the ship is going to Male’ it was a great happiness for us. Because we know that we will get a good holiday” said Junaid.
He said that with the new vehicles brought to MPL, they are able to unload the ships within 18 hours and hence the sailors do not get any holidays now.
“Not it is the staffs of MPL who get holidays. Now they have to stay without any work. Previously boat owners and businessmen complained of the delays in unloading the boats. However, that is changed now. Now MPL staffs are bored because they do not have much work to do usually” said Junaid.
Junaid said that these revolutionary changes brought within 3 years is proof that the economic policies of the president is solid. “There was no time where Maldives did not get ships with goods. It has been 30 years since the formation of MPL. Where are the previous rulers of Maldives? Why were they not able to do this ?” junaid questioned.
