A two-day workshop on free trade has begun today. This workshop is conducted for concerned authorities in Maldives and for senior figures in the education sector. The workshop is facilitated by World Trade Organization on an invitation from the Economic Ministry.
Speaking about the workshop, Economic Minister Saeed said Maldives lost many privileges in exporting goods after Maldives graduated from least developed countries to developed country.
Minister Saeed said that, as a solution the government plans to make free trade agreements with as many countries as possible. " Hence authorities and business community should be aware of how things will work when free trade agreements are made. Even the education sector should be made aware of. The president wishes to develop the fisheries industry of Maldives and to increase the revenue from fish exports" said the minister.
In addition he said that international community had recognized the government's effort to promote trade and an organization such as WTO accepting the government's invitation to conduct tue workshop is proof of that.
