Maldives Customs Service has stated that goods worth 2.4 billion Rufiyaa were imported to Maldives on January 2016
The statistics published by Customs show that on January 2017 the goods imported in January was worth 3.3 billion Rufiyaa. Among the goods imported, 18 percent was imported from UAE while 13 percent was imported from Singapore. The third most amount of goods were imported from India which was at 11 percent.
In addition, the figures show that the imports in January 2017 has increased by 36 percent compared to the previous year. Moreover, the revenue received in January 2017 was 25 percent more than that of last year as well. In January 2016, the state received 181 million Rufiyaa as revenue while this year it was 226 million Rufiyaa. According to customs the export rate of Maldives increased in January 2017 by 137 percent compared to the previous year. In January 2016 goods, worth 265 million Rufiyaa was exported while in January 2017 goods worth 633 million Rufiyaa was exported.
The major export of Maldives is fish and records show that most of the fish exports were to Thailand.
