India will always remain with the government of Maldives even if some India newspapers dislike it. That was evident from the action India took when Nasheed resigned and went home.
When Nasheed woke up the next day after resigning, it was his Vice President Dr.Waheed Hassan Manik who was the president of the nation. India was the first countrytto accepted Dr.Waheed’s presidency and announced it to the whole world.
At that time the Indian High Commissioner to Maldives was Dyaneyshvar Manohar Muley. The same day Muley assured that India will remain with the people of Maldives and that India will always support any decision made collectively by the people of Maldives.
Indian Embassy allowing Nasheed to take refuge in the embassy is a whole different issue. It was done on the basis of treating someone humanely.
Reporting about the recent visit of State Minister for Indian Foreign Ministry, Indian newspapers described the purpose of the visit as facilitating to allow Nasheed run for elections. These newspapers reported more about what Nasheed said in Sri Lanka than the actual visit of the minister.
Since India allows freedom of press, they can write whatever they want. There are website which posts defamatory articles about PM Narendra Modi every thirty minutes. But no one cares about such websites.
The President’s website posted a news article regarding the state minister’s visit. The Indian Foreign Ministry or Akbar did not say that the news was false.
There will be Maldivians who will be concerned when Indian newspapers report such stories. Such people will think that India is trying to militarily intervene and change the government of Maldives. These types of stories are reporting in collaboration with news outlets for this exact reason. But it will never benefit those who do it.
India will continue to remain with the people of Maldives and the government elected by the people of Maldives. When Male’ needed water, Indian navy ships came and assisted. Like that, Indian ships will only visit Maldives to assist Maldivians.
